ELECTRICAL LINEWORKER PROGRAM
Have you ever thought about becoming a lineman?
Now you can with Berkeley Electric Cooperative's Electrical Lineworker (ELW) Program.
In partnership with Trident Technical College, Berkeley Electric Cooperative has developed a 14-week training program that will help you gain the knowledge and skills to help you begin your career in the electric utility industry. Students experience conditions similar to those they encounter on the job at the on-site outdoor training lab at Trident Technical College's North Charleston campus. Students also receive expert classroom training in electrical theory and other subjects vital to launching their careers as lineworkers.
All classes are held at Trident Tech’s Thornley Campus in North Charleston and run Monday–Thursday, 8 a.m.–4:15 p.m. Classes are taught in a block format, and topics include:
- Electrical math formulas
- Intro to Electrical Circuits
- Study of Power Systems
- Introduction to ELW
- Overhead Construction I
- Underground Construction I
- Students completing the program will also be certified in First Aid, CPR, OSHA Construction Safety, and as a National Safety Council Flagger.
ELW Scholarships
Berkeley Electric offers two scholarships per training program. Scholarship recipients will have the opportunity to participate in our Electrical Line Worker Third Class program at Trident Technical College. All necessary tools and books will be covered by BEC, and the cooperative will provide $1,000 toward tuition. When not actively participating in a class at TTC, candidates will work alongside one of our district crews.
This position will be based in Moncks Corner, but the successful candidate will work from the district office closest to their home address.
